Marathon Tunes

The marathon is this Sunday.

I'm really excited to get out and run. I know I won't be running fast--my goal is to run around 4 hours. I think I can probably break 4, but mostly I'm just excited to knock this one out. I'm still hanging on to my dream of qualifying for Boston, and this marathon is the recovery step in my training. The schedule I use to train for this race was the lightest of any I have done and I definitely started out in the worst shape (thanks, Finley!). Next race (and I'm still taking suggestions) I plan to train for much more intensely.

I'm intense.

So... since I'm trying really hard to not take the marathon too seriously, I think I may run with an ipod. I've never done that before. Normally, I like to be able to hear people cheering and really savor the race. And I like to calculate my splits and... well... essentially do math while I run. That's really embarrassing. But it's true.

But this time, I think I want to listen to music. And my current playlist is not really pumping. Lots of David Archuleta, broadway tunes and Jason Mraz. And Sam Phillips. It's weird.

Suggestions? What songs are fun to run or work-out to? Help me out. YOU could help me win this race.

  1. When I ran last weekend, I listened to techno dance mixes the whole time. Seriously. There is a website called Motion Traxx where you can download music. I didn't think I would like listening to the techno, but you actually sort of lose yourself to the beat. I ran at one that was 168 bpm, which is technically slower than I run and repeated it twice. You don't have to worry about if you like the song or not, if it is good for the mood or hill you are on, you just follow the beat of the techno song. Works like a charm. I'm a believer now.

  2. Miley Cyrus and Carrie Underwood. Also, I get to see you in one week. YAY!

  3. I have been running (pause for gasp) lately to the Juno soundtrack. It is all chill music and most of the songs have ridiculous lyrics that trigger my imagination and make my mind wander.

  4. okgo, modest mouse, panic!at the disco, abba, queen

  5. Black Eyed Peas. Not that I'm a runner by any means but if I was, that's what I would listen to. GOOD LUCK!!

  6. I like to (attempt to) run to Girl Talk. He remixes hilarious combinations of songs - a rap base, but with additions like Sinead O'Conner, George Harrison, Kelly Clarkson, Queen... Everything. So you're always surprised by what comes next. You can download the album pay-what-you-will on MySpace.

  7. Love it! Thanks for all the suggestions!

A comment? For me? You shouldn't have. But please do.
