In the spring time, the only pretty ring time

I did not realize that quote was Shakespeare originally, and not crazy Willy Wonka. I'm so cultured.

Poetry aside, it is spring in NOVA. My seasonal allergies can confirm it. Victoria counted 6 consecutive sneezes on our drive into school this morning. My morning routine currently consists of prescription eyedrops, Claritin and occasionally a nose spray if I am feeling wild. I feel bad about all those years that I told Courtney that her allergies aren't real. I'm pretty sure they are.

But I think the pretty flowering trees and huge blooms in our neighborhood might make it worthwhile. I look forward to pushing a huge stroller 6 miles up and down the hills of our neighborhood a little more when I know that there are trees that smell like perfume-y heaven scattered around. Even when they drive me into a burning eyed, runny nosed mess.

And now I would like to leave you with Jack Prelutsky poem that I was obsessed with in first grade, and have re-written for this occasion.

Allergies! Oh, allergies!
I hate you! You stink!
I wish I could wash you away in the sink,
if only a bomb
would explode you to bits.
Allergies! Oh, allergies!
You're giving me fits.

  1. I know that my allergies are real and I have suffered with them as my companion for many, many years. You're allergies, however, I'm certain are either a figment of your imagination or a pitiful ploy for attention. You should figure out which and then medicate that. (but use the nasal spray everyday, it really helps)

p.s. I didn't know Willy ripped off William either. Not sure if I like that. By the by, did you notice his creepy voice in the Lost preview? Awesome!

  2. 1. Your, not you're.
    2. I can see that counseling degree is really paying off.
    3. Yes, I have been seen lots of Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka lately. That LOST preview was SCARY.

  3. Pretty flower. I heart our neighborhood.

  4. 1. seeing, not seen.
    2. I can see that teaching degree is really paying off. Thanks for pointing out my stupidity.
    3. Have you had any adverse physiological reactions to Willy Wonka lately like YOUR one road trip?

  5. Flonase is the best allergy medicine. It cures the runny nose and itchy eyes right away

  6. Speaking of Spring Poetry, I thought I'd publish this gem:

    No dependency for me,
    Drug and Alcohol free 2003...

  7. I heart Gene Wilder and his performance of Mr. Wonka. I also like how they educated us with Shakey, without us knowing it. I love knowing quotes and then finding out they are famous and I sound smart :)

  8. I am so impressed that a math teacher and a list maker and a stickler for details (taking that from the repartee betwixt R and C) has posted a blog with a photograph of flowers and with poetry, including William Shakespeare. Rachel, I am very proud!

A comment? For me? You shouldn't have. But please do.
